ABOUT THE TORONTO JAPANESE FILM FESTIVAL
The Toronto Japanese Film Festival is dedicated to showcasing the finest Japanese films that have been recognized for excellence by Japanese audiences and critics, international film festival audiences and the Japanese Film Academy. TorontoJFF acts as a forum to connect Canadian audiences, Japanese filmmakers, industry professionals and supporters. The festival is a bridge between the Japanese film industry and the Canadian/North American film industry and distribution professionals.
For many films, TorontoJFF is the first step to broader recognition and appreciation by North American and Canadian audiences. The second Toronto Japanese Film Festival will be held at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre between June 13th and 27th, 2013. Programming will again address popular genres such as historical (samurai) jidaigeki, contemporary dramas and comedies, pop culture manga-based action thrillers, art house fare, children’s and anime films. All films will be Canadian or Toronto premieres with the exception of some special screening events.
At TorontoJFF we choose films that reflect the tastes of Japanese audiences, those celebrated by the Japanese Academy Awards, as well as films recommended by the community as those they would like to share with Canadians. In other words, we believe our film project has been “programmed by Japan.”
