Back Alleys and Urban Landscapes, Michael Cho’s fantastic book of painting of Toronto’s less famous vistas, is back in stock at the Beguiling again just in time for some exciting news from Gallery at 129 Ossington:

Hi there, I have a quick question for you. Why don’t you already own Kagan McLeod’s Infinite Kung Fu? Seriously, what can the reason be? Is it because the copy you saw didn’t have a super sweet sketch in the front? He fixed that! We have ten sweetly sketched copies of Infinite Kung Fu for sale on the main floor of The Beguiling.

If you are one of the very wise folks who already picked up a copy of this masterpiece you can, of course, still grab one of these as your old copy will make a great gift. Just don’t tell whoever you give it to they missed out on this. They might cry.

We had some copies of The Comics Journal 301 giant book sized issue. Then we didn’t have any. It was weird. Now we have them again!

It’s 622 pages of images, interviews, and articles from a ton of great folks including: Robert Crumb, Joe Sacco, Al Jaffee, Michael Kupperman, Jim Woodring, Tim Hensley, Stephen Dixon, and many many more.

It’s also over an inch thick and includes the complete Gerald McBoing Boing written by Theodore Geisel (Dr. Seuss) and drawn by Bill Hurtz.

Just 4.82 cents a page ($30).

Chester Brown, friend of The Beguiling and author of award winning Louis Riel and highly anticipated Paying For It, is again running as MP for the Libertarian Party in the Trinity-Spadina riding here in Toronto. In the 2008 federal election Chester received .8% of the vote, the second highest vote percentage of any Libertarian Party candidate in the country!

Coincidentally The Beguiling is throwing a release party for Chester’s new book Paying For It the night before the election. So, whether you’ve enjoyed his work for years or you’ve just discovered his comics through his political career, come on out May 1st for a good time.

Lost & Found is beautiful hard cover containing three long unavailable stories (The Red Tree, The Lost Thing, and The Rabbits) by award-winning Australian graphic novelist and illustrator Shaun Tan, now finally back in print.

Tan’s rare skill in crafting tales with interest and appeal for all ages have made his other books, Outer Suburbia and The Arrival, favorites of both staff and customers here at the store.

As you may have heard, the animated adaptation of one of the stories in this book–The Lost Thing–took home the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film a few weeks back, which has made Tan’s work even more in-demand. We’re quite happy to see this book back in print, and it is in stock on both floors of The Beguiling.
