star-lord_1_coverThe Beguiling is proud to once again welcome one and all to our annual Dinosaur Comics Holiday Party! Things might be tough right now, but that makes getting together with friends, comics, and some secret Santa-ing even more important. This year Ryan North, creator of Dinosaur Comics and writer of The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl will be joined by a bunch of pals with brand new books, out today!

  • Chip Zdarsky will be there, and today is the day of release for his new comic book Star-Lord #1 from Marvel Comics!
  • Jason Loo will be there, and he’ll have a brand new issue of Toronto’s own superhero The Pitiful Human-Lizard!
  • Scott Hepburn will be there, and he’s the artist of the Power Man & Iron Fist: Sweet Christmas Annual #1, brand new today!
  • AND ALL THE WAY FROM ENGLAND, Mr. Jamie McKelvie will be in attendance, and he’s the co-creator of The Wicked and The Divine.

If you’ve never been before, Ryan, Chip, and pals will be getting together and signing/mingling with folks, we’ll ask them some fun questions in front of an audience, and there’ll be books there for you to buy and get signed too (courtesy of The Beguiling). Plus, returning for another year is the popular SECRET SANTA trade at the event! Read on for details!

HEY EVERYONE! WHY NOT JOIN IN FOR OUR SECRET SANTA?

We’re holding a SECRET SANTA at this event! Everyone is welcome to participate, but no one has to if they don’t want to because choice is important!

If you would like to participate:

  • Please bring a wrapped gift with a monetary value of about $5-$10. Don’t go nuts, but find something cool.
  • Go to the book sales table and trade your gift for a numbered ticket.
  • At 8:30pm, we’ll call out the numbers, and when your number is called you’ll have your choice of the available gifts!
  • Please mark on the outside of the gift if your item contains food and especially if it contains common allergens including peanuts, gluten, etc., so that people with allergies will be able to make an informed Secret Santa Selection.

A holiday tradition returns, as The Beguiling is once again thrilled to welcome one and all to our almost-annual Dinosaur Comics Holiday Party & Book Launch, featuring our good friend Ryan North! This year Ryan will be joined by a star-studded list of good pals and collaborators on his projects, including Erica Henderson (artist on Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and Jughead), Chip Zdarsky (writer on Jughead and Kaptara), Kagan McLeod (aritst on Kaptara), and Emily Horne, of the recently-completed comic strip A Softer World! Plus, who knows, a few special guests and a few special books might make an appearance as well!

All of our guests will be getting together for some holiday cheer, with a fun on-stage interview, and a book signing too! Get your comics signed, or buy comics there (courtesy of The Beguiling) to get signed for yourself or for gifts! There’s nothing better than signed comics for Christmas gifts!

PrintWoo-hoo! We’re delighted to announce that Chip Zdarsky, writer of the newly relaunched JUGHEAD comic series, will make a special visit to Little Island Comics to sign the very first issue on its release day, Wednesday, October 7th!

Chip is the writer of comics for grownups (like “Sex Criminals” and “Howard The Duck”), and that’s cool! But he’s writing this one square for the folks that have ready Jughead and Archie Comics for years–everyone! THis is an all-ages event! So parents, feel free to bring your kids by to get a Jughead #1 and get it signed. Grown-ups, feel free to come get your comics signed too, but we want this to be a kid-friendly event, please and thanks, so keep it G-rated.

So we’ll see you at Little Island Comics this October for an amazing new event! The relaunched Archie #1 is available now in store, by Mark Waid and Fiona Staples.

THE BEGUILING is very proud to present the launch of KAPTARA #1, featuring our good pals Kagan McLeod (he draws it!) and Chip Zdarsky (he writes it!). KAPTARA is the new ongoing Image Comics series by Chip & Kagan, a sci-fi adventure that Chip calls “Like ‘Saga’ but Gay.” (paraphrasing).

Chip and Kagan will join us next-door to the shop at The Central, 603 Markham Street, where they will each have a quick drink, before signing your comics, and entertaining you with stories of its creation, probably!

Kaptara #1 is release to comic stores everywhere on Wednesday April 22nd, but you should probably buy it at The Beguiling Books & Art.

The one and only Chip Zdarsky, artist and co-creator of Sex Criminals, writer and co-creator of the forthcoming Kaptara, and star of our dreams, will be teaming with us from The Beguiling to do an event of sub-epic proportions, in celebration of his epic new HOWARD THE DUCK #1 and the long-awaited SEX CRIMINALS VOLUME 2!

htd_zdThe event takes place Wednesday March 11th, just down the street from The Beguiling at No One Writes To The Colonel (College & Bathurst). Chip Zdarsky will be doing a short presentation, having a drink or two, and signing your copies of HOWARD THE DUCK and SEX CRIMINALS and whatever else you bring! The Beguiling will ALSO be involved in the presentation, having three to six drinks, and will have ALL of the Howard The Duck #1 covers (including variants) on hand for your purchasing pleasure.
