THE SECRET HISTORY OF DB COOPER #1 – Pullfile Customer Special

The Secret History of D.B. Cooper #1
Reg. Cover by Brian Churilla

Coming this March from Oni Press is a brand new, full-colour, ongoing adventure series entitled THE SECRET HISTORY OF D.B. COOPER, from writer/artist Brian Churilla. It details exactly what happened to legendary bank robber D.B. Cooper after he jumped from that airplane, and the reality (a vast Cold War conspiracy drenched in horror) of his unique situation. I’ve read the first issue and it’s a neat book, I think people are really gonna dig it.

Preview Issue #1 – Comic Book Resources

The Beguiling, in association with Oni Press, are teaming up to create a very special incentive for our pullfile customers on The Secret History of D.B. Cooper #1. Simply add the series to your pullfile before the first issue comes out this month (tentative date: March 14), and we’ll upgrade your copy of #1 to the J.H. Williams III variant (1 in 10, an $8.00 value) for no additional cost! We’ll also give you your pre-order discount on the first two issues, even though it’s past the deadline!

All you need to do is inform one of the staff in store, or Chris via e-mail (chris@beguiling.com) that you want it added to your pull list. Then when the day comes, the copy in your file should be a swanky variant.

Don’t have a pullfile? The J.H. Williams cover to D.B. Cooper #1 will be $8.00 on week of release, or you can sign up for a pullfile. Just e-mail chris@beguiling.com for details.

What People Are Saying about D.B. Cooper #1:

“Wow. I love this book.”
-Mike Mignola (Hellboy)

“DANG!  Killer! This comic is CRAZY COOL, beautiful to look at and a blast to read!”
-Michael Allred (Madman, iZOMBIE)

“Few people can pull off the strangeness and monster boogie the way Brian Churilla does with THE SECRET HISTORY OF D. B. COOPER. He takes history and conspiracy and samurai swords and one-eared teddy bears, tosses them in a blender with lots of slime-dripping beasties, and mixes up a story of mental warfare that goes down nice and smooth. Here’s a secret that deserves to see the light of day.”
-Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun, Wolverine)

“This is the book Brian Churilla was born to create. Eerie, compelling, energetic, fun … packed with monsters, mystery, mind-tripping and mayhem. I can’t wait to delve deeper into the secrets…”
-Kurt Busiek (Astro City)

“A dazzling work of sheer lunacy. Everything you want from a conspiracy comic, plus, Monsters!”
-Joshua Hale Fialkov (I; Vampire, Echoes)

“The only mystery more confounding than the ultimate fate of D.B. Cooper is why Brian Churilla isn’t already the biggest thing in comics. After readers get a look at THE SECRET HISTORY OF D.B. COOPER that will change in a hurry.”
-Phillip Hester (Wonder Woman, The Darkness)

“Brian Churilla has taken one of the greatest mysteries of the 20th century and transformed it into one of the most innovative comics of the 21st. THE SECRET HISTORY OF DB COOPER is absolutely required reading.”
-Joe Keatinge, (Glory, Hell Yeah)

“I love what [Brian] does, it has so much punch, vitality, and fun in it… The book is loaded with fun stuff: inter-dimensional travel, intrigue, otherworldly monsters, a wicked little teddy bear… you won’t be disappointed!”
-J.H. Willaims III (Batwoman)

“A super surreal pulp-infused assassin story topped up with violence and sass.”
-Jim Zub (Skullkickers, Makeshift Miracle)

EVENT: March 14th is CROSSED DAY

Crossed Day
Wednesday, March 14th, 2012
Free In-Store Event

The Beguiling is celebrating the industry-wide “Crossed Day” on Wednesday, March 14th, the day that the new biweekly (meaning twice-monthly) ongoing Crossed: Badlands series debuts, written by creator Garth Ennis and drawn by Jacen Burrows. We will have copies of the “Crossed: Get Infected” promo book to give away to anyone who’d like one, and the first 15 people to purchase a copy of Crossed: Badlands will get a Crossed Button and a Crossed Temporary Tattoo.  Everyone who buys Crossed: Badlands will be entered for a chance to win 1 Crossed Poster and 1 Crossed: Badlands Retailer Edition Rare Variant. Ballots will be available in store on March 14th, pullfile customers of crossed are automatically entered. Details in store.

About Crossed: CROSSED is easily the most disgusting comic being released into the industry; a monthly blood orgy featuring newer and more disturbing ways for a series of hyper-violent sorta-zombies to sexually/violently ‘infect’ the uninfected and/or kill them. It’s a metaphor for a lot of stuff about humanity and human nature, and it has its fans, but it’s still pretty gross. But realistically the industry needs books we think are gross, that have consistent and imaginative creative teams, that fill consumer demand for books that aren’t JUST about superheroes. To paraphrase Fantagraphics’ Kim Thompson, The Industry needs more of every sort of book to make it function.

That said, we’re not really into people acting like these characters in real life: they’re the bad guys, and emulating their actions or behaviour doesn’t fly in our store, FYI.

There are 3 volumes collecting the previous Crossed mini-series currently in stock on the second floor, on both the “Garth Ennis” and “Zombie” shelves.

Now in Stock: New Bernie Mierault! TO GET HER

Bernie Mireault! Creator of Canadian alt-comix legend THE JAM returns with a brand new, limited edition graphic novel entitled “To Get Her.”

Limited to just 810 copies (each one signed and numbered with a little sketch), TO GET HER is a “dystopian romantic comedy” according to the creator, and “a plea for understanding from cartoonists to their civilian mates, at the very least proposing some basic ground rules for more humane relationship breakups.” A stand-alone story, it nonetheless references Mireault’s work on THE JAM quite a bit, and fans and newcomers alike will find much to enoy.

“To Get Her” is a beautifully printed object too, deep blacks on glossy paper, a lovely cover stock, it even has rounded corners, and 174 pages of comics. All in all, it’s a very nice and surprising little package and only $25.

To the best of our knowledge the availability of this book is quite scarce, and we’re pleased to be one of the few outlets that M. Mireault contacted to carry it. You can find “To Get Her” on both the first and second floors of The Beguiling.
