NOW IN STOCK: Marc Bell’s HOT POTATOE and Line Gamache’s POOF!

Hey Art Comix Fans! Have we got a deal for you… not one but TWO brand-new books for your enjoyment have arrived here at The Beguiling safe & sound. It’s Marc Bell’s new works collection HOT POTATOE from Drawn & Quarterly, and Line Gamache’s POOF! from Conundrum Press.

Hot Potatoe is, as D&Q describes it, “Part art monograph, part comics collection, HOT POTATOE is filled with mixed media cardboard constructions, watercoloured drawings, altered found texts and Bell’s most intense, dizzying comics from the contemporary avant-garde comics anthologies – Kramers Ergot and The Ganzfeld.” We were supposed to have received our orders of this last week, but due to a shipping snafu we didn’t Quite get’em. They are in-stock now, though, and ready for purchase. $44.95, main floor.
Meanwhile, POOF! is Line Gamache’s follow-up to the acclaimed “Hello, Me Pretty!” from Conundrum. Gamache is a Quebecois visual artist and underground cartoonist, and her newest work is an epic artist’s saga about inspiration and the creative process. $15, main floor.

Did someone say Green Lantern rings?

As part of their promotion for the mega-popular Blackest Night crossover, DC comics has gone ahead and produced power rings in all of the colours of the rainbow, to match all of the new lanterns they’ve introduced. We’re going to be giving them away free with the purchase of their related Blackest Night crossover titles. Here’s the list:

After all of the rings have come out, we’re going to see how many we have left and then think about selling them individually or in sets, for folks that just want the rings but not the comics.

Both of these fine books were announced by Diamond as shipping last week, which is frustrating because Diamond didn’t ship them to Canada until this week. Still, this is a brand new, full colour original hardcover graphic novel featuring Usagi Yojimbo, and a sterling collection of the popular new crime series by Brubaker and Phillips, so hopefully no one minds TOO much waiting an extra week to get them.

This is one of a couple of new mini-series by the new TANK GIRL team of creator Alan Martin and Artist Rufus Dayglo! We were lucky enough to have Dayglo in town for a signing a few months back and he showed me some of the pages for this–looks fantastic! All y’all Tank Girl fans, make sure to come by this week! We ordered a bunch but it’s HIGHLY UNLIKELY that we’ll ever be able to get a re-order on this one as it’s from a British publisher.

Finally, this one’s a bit of a shot in the dark for me but it looks pretty solid. It’s an original graphic novel by a relative newcomer named Marian Churchland (she illustrated a few issues of Elephantmen and a ‘Conan’ one-shot), but the art looks brilliant and evocative.
