ABOUT THROUGH THE WOODS & EMILY CARROLL

Discover a terrifying world in the woods in this collection of five hauntingly beautiful graphic stories that includes the online webcomic sensation “His Face All Red,” in print for the first time.

Journey through the woods in this sinister, compellingly spooky collection that features four brand-new stories and one phenomenally popular tale in print for the first time. These are fairy tales gone seriously wrong, where you can travel to “Our Neighbor’s House”—though coming back might be a problem. Or find yourself a young bride in a house that holds a terrible secret in “A Lady’s Hands Are Cold.” You might try to figure out what is haunting “My Friend Janna,” or discover that your brother’s fiancée may not be what she seems in “The Nesting Place.” And of course you must revisit the horror of “His Face All Red,” the breakout webcomic hit that has been gorgeously translated to the printed page.

Already revered for her work online, award-winning comic creator Emily Carroll’s stunning visual style and impeccable pacing is on grand display in this entrancing anthology, her print debut.

About SHOPLIFTER:

Corinna Park used to have big plans.  Studying English literature in college, she imagined writing a successful novel and leading the idealized life of an author. But she’s been working at the same advertising agency for the past five years and the only thing she’s written is … copy. Corinna knows there must be more to life, but and she faces the same question as does everyone in her generation: how to find it? Here is the brilliant debut graphic novel about a young woman’s search for happiness and self-fulfillment in the big city.

EVENT: 100 Crushes Book Launch

(Hey Beguilingers! This isn’t ‘our’ event, but we strongly recommend it, the book 100 Crushes, and publisher Koyama Press, as being worth your time & money, go check it out!)

100 Crushes Book Launch in Conjunction with Generations of Queer Exhibit

Koyama Press is pleased to announce that on 15 June 2014 from 2 to 5PM Elisha Lim will be launching their debut graphic memoir 100 Crushes at Onsite [at] OCAD U in conjunction with their exhibition Generations of Queer.

Toronto-based artist Lim’s work celebrates the dignity and power of being neither straight, nor white, nor cis-gendered. In 2011 they also successfully advocated for Canadian gay media to adopt the gender neutral pronoun “they.” 100 Crushes compiles five years of queer comics by Lim, including excerpts from Sissy, The Illustrated Gentleman, Queer Child in the Eighties, and their cult series 100 Butches, as well as new work. It’s an absorbing documentary that travels through Toronto, Berlin, Singapore, and beyond in the form of interviews, memoirs, and gossip from an international queer vanguard.

Lim’s work is included in OCAD U’s Generations of Queer exhibition which presents vital and compelling narratives through the works of four Toronto-based artists. Influenced by age, background, current context and health, each of these artists has different stories to tell.

Join us for an afternoon of art, readings and community as we celebrate the launch of this groundbreaking book.
