The Beguiling @ Inspire! Toronto International Book Festival, November 14, 15, 16

The Beguiling is a proud supporter of the first-ever Toronto International Book Fair, INSPIRE, to be held next weekend, November 14, 15, and 16. The Festival will take place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, on Front St.

The Beguiling will be exhibiting with both English and French-language materials, will be hosting two programs, and will feature nearly a dozen comics authors signing at their booth across the three day event.

The Beguiling

The Beguiling will be exhibiting with author signings and English-language comics material at booth 219 in the Marketplace. We will also be exhibiting with a selection of French-language material in the International Pavilion, Booth FP16.

Programs

The Beguiling Presents: The New Small Press
Friday, November 14th, 6:30pm-7:30pm, Spark Stage
We tend to look an author’s career in terms of “progress”, of ‘breaking in’, working with larger houses, and seeking wide distribution. Why then in comics do many professionally published creators still prefer to work with small houses, or to self-publish and self-distribute selections of their work? Meet with acclaimed creators and publishing reps at the forefront of The New Small Press, and experience their ingenuity, creativity, and their art-oriented approach to publishing.
Featuring Kate Beaton (Hark, A Vagrant!), Michael DeForge (Lose, Ant Colony), and Anne Koyama, Publisher of Koyama Press. Hosted by Christopher Butcher.

The Beguiling Presents: Comedy…? What’s Funny in Funnybooks.
Sunday, November 16, 2:00pm-3:00pm, Spark Stage
Join comic creators as they discuss the ins and outs of writing comedy–a genre that the medium of comics does very well, but surprisingly, not very often!
Featuring Kate Beaton (Hark, A Vagrant), Ryan North (Dinosaur Comics, Squirrel Girl), and Chip Zdarsky (Sex Criminals). Hosted by Christopher Butcher.

Signing Schedule

The following signings will take place at The Beguiling’s main booth, 219, in the marketplace.

Friday November 14th (Show hours, 10am-8pm)
11am-5pm: Dakota McFadzean (Other Stories…) and Joe Ollmann (Happy Stories About Well-Adjusted People)
5pm-6pm: Kate Beaton (Hark, A Vagrant) and Michael DeForge (LOSE)

Saturday November 15 (Show hours, 10am-8pm)
11am-2pm: Noel Tuazon (Family Ties), J. Torres (Bigfoot Boy)
2pm-5pm: Chris Leung & Sondang Sianipar (The Mis-Adventures of Mal & Lot), J. Torres (The Adventures of Bigfoot Boy)

Sunday November 16 (Show hours, 10am-6pm)
11am-3pm: Jason Loo (Pitiful Human Lizard), Eric Kim (Nitro Battlers)

Event: The Secret History of Wonder Woman, with Jill Lepore! Dec 11

“The Secret History of Wonder Woman is as racy, as improbable, as awesomely righteous, and as filled with curious devices as an episode of the comic book itself. In the nexus of feminism and popular culture, Jill Lepore has found a revelatory chapter of American history. I will never look at Wonder Woman’s bracelets the same way again.”
