CONTEST: Katsuhiro Otomo’s new movie SHORT PEACE!

short_peace_500px

Hey! Did you know that last year Katsuhiro Otomo, creator of Akira, made a new movie last year? It’s called ‘Short Peace’ and it contains 4 segments, each directed by a different director including Hiroaki Ando, Hajime Katoki, Shuhei Morita, and Katsuhiro Otomo himself. I am thrilled about this.

The good/bad thing about this is that it’s screening here in Toronto on May 14, and May 17. You can find tickets at Cineplex! http://cineplex.com/Showtimes/short-peace/toronto-on?Date=5/14/2014&TheatreFilter=all

However, we’re GIVING AWAY TICKETS! Thanks to Viz Media and Elevenarts, you can win one of 3 pairs of passes to see SHORT PEACE on either May 14 or 17!

But Wait, There’s More! These passes are also good for ANOTHER movie, if you can’t make it to Short Peace! Another great movie, Tiger & Bunny: The Rising, is screening June 26 and June 29 in Toronto. The passes will work for any of the screenings (but not all of them, you gotta choose).

Win tickets to see FAR OUT ISN’T FAR ENOUGH

far out

three-robbersOne of our most successful events of the past year was definitely the visit by acclaimed children’s book author/illustrator… and erotic artist… Tomi Ungerer, in support of the new biopic on his work and his life. We’ve heard a pretty common refrain of regret from folks who missed theses screenings last year, and so we’re quite happy that the work is returning for an engagement at the Bloor this weekend! We’re giving away tickets to the opening night, Friday August 30th with entry info below, but even if you’re not the contesting type we hope you’ll go check out this amazing film!

About “Far Out Isn’t Far Enough: The Tomi Ungerer Story”

FAR OUT ISN’T FAR ENOUGH is a fascinating journey into the life of an uncompromising artist. From his award-winning children’s books to his provocative and iconic anti-war illustrations from the 60s and 70s, Tomi Ungerer’s work has always had a clever, biting edge balanced with a playful fearlessness. But as much as Ungerer was heralded for his creativity, his outspokenness made him a target of controversy. This became even more evident when Ungerer began to illustrate erotic books late in his career, a move that outraged fans of his earlier work and blacklisted his publications from most major libraries, schools and bookstores. Forced to re-invent himself, Ungerer retreated to Nova Scotia and then to Ireland to refuel his creative energies, only recently finding renewed success. In English and French, with English subtitles.
