True Patriot Anthology: Canadian Comic Book Adventures!

The Beguiling is very much anticipating the arrival of the True Patriot anthology! What is True Patriot? In their own words:

True Patriot is a comic book anthology featuring Canadian superheroes written and drawn by some of your favourite Canadian comic book creators. Most of us working on this project grew up reading Alpha Flight, Captain Canuck, or Wolverine comics and we’ve always thought that there should be more Canadian superheroes out there. So, we’re putting together a 100-page, full-colour anthology for your reading pleasure (and ours)!

There are tons of great Canadian creators involved in this project, including: Adrian Alphona (Runaways), Andy B. (Kill Shakespeare), J. Bone (Super Friends), Jack Briglio (Scooby Doo), Scott Chantler (Two Generals), Tom Fowler (Hulk: Season One), Agnes Garbowska (Girl Comics), Faith Erin Hicks (Adventure Time), Tim Levins (Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes), Ramon Perez (A Tale of Sand), Ron Salas (28 Days Later), Jay Stephens (Secret Saturdays), J. Torres (Teen Titans Go), Howard Wong (After the Cape).

Where can you get such an excitingly Canadian book? Well, if you’d like to support these creators directly, there is a way! Right now there are 3 days left on the True Patriot Indiegogo campaign, and they could certainly use your help in getting this book made. Head on over to their campaign page and check out their list of enticing donation incentives.

However, once the campaign is over and the book in printed, we’ll have plenty of copies available in-store at The Beguiling. We’ve got you covered.

In-Stock: Robert Crumb – Sketchbooks 1982-2011

Good news! Volumes 7-12 are now available at The Beguiling!

From Tashen’s website:

This six-book boxed set is the first collection of Robert Crumb sketches to be printed from the original art since the hard-bound, slipcased, seven volume series issued by the German publisher Zweitausendeins between 1981 and 1997. Unlike the Zweitausendeins edition, which included every doodle ever made by the preeminent underground artist, our best-of edition has been personally edited by the notoriously picky artist to include only what he considers his finest work, including hundreds of late period drawings not published in previous sketchbook collections. Robert Crumb requested that the books representing the second half of his career be published first due to fan demand for new Crumb material (Volumes 7-12 cover the period 1982-2011, and the forthcoming Volumes 1-6 will cover the period 1964-1981).

In the last 20 years Crumb’s artistic output has slowed considerably, making new works more rare and highly prized. This collection of over 600 unseen drawings created between 1982 and 2011 makes this a must-have collectible for every Crumb fan.

This 6 book set comes in a handsome slipcase, for the reasonable price of $1000. Definitely worth a look!

Announce: Tomi Ungerer Book Signing at Little Island Comics

Special Appearance and Book Signing with Tomi Ungerer

Saturday, September 8th, 2012 @ 2PM
@ Little Island Comics, 742 Bathurst St.
Free to attend!

The Beguiling is extremely proud to announce an event at Little Island Comics with Tomi Ungerer. He is in town for the screening of Far Out Isn’t Far Enough: The Tomi Ungerer Story, a documentary about his fascinating work and life, as part of TIFF (Screening Times and Locations). We have not been this excited about an artist profile since Crumb (1994). I watched it last night, and it is an compelling and engaging introduction to the man and his diverse body of work. While perhaps most known for his children’s work (The Three Robbers, Moon Man, etc.), his social and erotic images are as powerful as anything you find in our shop.

The event is taking place around the corner at Little Island Comics. For more information, please refer to the Little Island Comics website. See you September 8th!
