The International Festival of Authors (IFOA)

The International Festival of Authors is on its way once again, and we’re happy to see another great collection of comics and graphic novels creators included in the programming this year, including Seth, R. O. Blechman, Kean Soo, Lynn Johnston, Ian Rankin, Denise Mina, and Eoin Colfer. The Beguiling is proud to be participating in this great event once more, and we’ll have a mini-store on-site at Harbourfront Centre for the duration of the festival with many works by these authors and a great selection of other comics, graphic novels, and prints.
Here’s a quick overview of the comics-related programming at this year’s IFOA, organized by date:
Mark Askwith interviews Eoin Colfer
Thursday October 22nd, 8:00pm
Friend-of-The-Beguiling Mark Askwith interviews the creator of the Artemis Fowl series of YA books (now in graphic novel form!) on the release of his installment of The Hitchiker’s Guide To The Galaxy series, And Another Thing…, continuing the series by the late Douglas Adams.
Lynn Johnston reads Farley Follows His Nose
Tuesday October 27th, 10:30am
The creator of the popular and recently-retired comic strip For Better Or Worse reads her new children’s book, featuring one of the beloved characters from the book.
Denise Mina reads Still Midnight
Tuesday October 27th, 1pm
Denise Mina wrote three arcs of Hellblazer! What more do you need? This popular author will be reading from her new work, and participating in a panel discussion about Scottish writers. See website for more info. Ian Rankin hosts this reading.
Ian Rankin reads The Complaints
Wednesday October 28th, 8pm
Ian Rankin, author of the new graphic novel Dark Entries: Hellblazer in the Vertigo Crime line will be reading from his new prose work.
Kean Soo reads Jellaby: Monster In The City
Thursday October 29th, 10:30am
The creator of Jellaby and co-editor of Flight reads his new graphic novel.
R.O. Blechman reads Talking Lines and
Seth reads George Sprott (1894-1975)
Saturday October 31st, 12:00pm
New Yorker cartoonist R.O. Blechman reads from his new D&Q-published book Talking Lines, and Seth will read from his new graphic novel George Sprott. The readings will be followed by a joint interview of both cartoonists by The Walrus’ Sean Rogers.
Tickets range in price around the $10 mark, and are available from http://readings.org and at the Harbourfront box office.
